
We’re so excited to share that Jose Duran, side-loader driver at Recology Davis, has been recognized as an Honorable Mention in the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Driver of the Year awards in the Residential category!
The NWRA Driver of the Year awards recognize waste collection professionals for their commitment to safety, years of service, route difficulty, and community engagement. With more than 150,000 waste collection drivers nationwide and companies from every state competing, this is an incredible honor.
Jose Duran, Recology Davis, Honorable Mention – Residential
Jose has worked as a garbage collector for 30 years. He drives rear-loader, side-loader, and roll-off. Jose completes 3,600 pickups and drives 450 miles a week.
Retired Operations Manager John Geisler says, “Jose goes the extra mile to ensure he does the best job possible, and his customers are always happy.” General Manager Justina Vega says Jose’s professionalism is reflected in his record of being accident and injury-free year after year.
Gustavo Arriaga, who won the 2023 National Driver of The Year title for Recology Davis, wrote a strong recommendation for Jose, noting that he is always punctual and rarely calls in sick and that “one of his routes is a country route where he knows all of his customers by their first and last names.”
