Haley Mae Caranto (she/her/they) is a multi-cultural mixed media artist born in 2002 and raised in Los Angeles. Her work explores the intersections of neurodiversity, cultural fusion, and environmental consciousness. Born with learning disabilities, Caranto embraces the discomfort of societal “norms” and channels it into her artistic practice.
Growing up traveling for her parents’ business, from the age of nine Caranto created visuals and stories, with cameras becoming an extension of her body. Her artistic journey often begins with photography before flowing into other mediums, where she combines process and play to fuel her creativity.
Caranto’s art delves into the complex tapestry of human existence, exploring internal conflicts, self-identity, and the essence of what it means to be human. She collects and transforms discarded materials, breaking down and reimagining their potential to challenge viewers’ perceptions of self, soul, and existence.
Through her art, Caranto invites audiences to experience the world through a neurodiverse lens, encouraging them to embrace the richness of different perspectives. Her work serves as a bridge between cultures, ideas, and ways of thinking, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and creative approach to understanding our place in the world. She is currently enrolled at California College of the Arts.
