Business Recycling Laws
AB 341, (effective July 1, 2012) requires commercial properties that generate four (4) cubic yards or more of solid waste per week or multifamily dwellings with five (5) units or more to enroll in recycling service.
AB 1826, (effective April 22, 2016) requires commercial properties to enroll in compost service if they have (2) cubic yards or more of solid waste per week.
AB 827, (effective July 1, 2020) is intended to educate and involve consumers in achieving the state’s recycling goals by requiring commercial properties subject to AB 341 and AB 1826 to make recycling and compost receptacles available to customers.
SB 1383, (effective January 1, 2022) builds upon California’s leading commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution statewide. It will require all businesses and residents to divert organic materials (including: food waste, yard waste and, soiled paper products) from the landfill. It also requires the state to increase edible food recovery by 20% by 2025.
