Sorting 101 for Special Events
- Black bags for trash, clear/no bags for recycling, compostable bags for compost
- Zero waste stations must be in a group of 3, 1 container for each commodity and they must be clearly labeled
- Special event boxes are for storage during the event only; must get emptied into carts/bins/debris boxes for service
- There are lockable containers to avoid contamination/illegal dumping
- Diversion program: City implemented a diversion discount to be in effect for events ordering service thru Recology; subject to clean loads coming back
- Plastic cups/utensils/containers should be free from caked on food/liquid before ending up in recycling
- Compostable items need to be clearly labeled as compost; biodegradable, eco-friendly, bioplastic, etc. not acceptable in compost program; should be BPI-certified compostable
