Welcome to Recology Sonoma Marin’s new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)!
This 85,000 square foot facility is where the blue recycling bin materials from 13 communities in Sonoma and Marin Counties are sorted and processed. Inside the new facility, recyclables are separated by revolutionary machinery like optical sorters and ballistic separators alongside our team of skilled recycling sorters. The facility processes around 400 tons of materials every day and has a recovery rate of 85 percent for materials collected.

Know Before You Go
Want to see it for yourself? We’d love to give you a tour to show you what happens to your recyclables after our trucks collect them. Tours are typically conducted M-F between 9 am – 12 pm while the sort lines are running.
A few important details:
- You must wear closed-to shoes with no openings around the base of the foot. If you arrive with any type of sandal or open-toe shoe, you will not be allowed on the tour. Here are examples of shoes that are not allowed:
- When you click below to sign up for a tour date, every member of your party must sign up individually. This is to make sure all guests are accounted for so we can conduct your tour safely.
- Those 15 years of age or older can participate, with minors under 18 years of age requiring a parent or guardian signed permission slip. Children under the age of 15 cannot attend our MRF tours at this time.
- This tour is not a safe environment for service animals. We cannot allow them in the facility.
- It is important that you are able to walk up/down multiple stairs unassisted and stand/walk for at least 90 minutes.
- Please be aware: this is not an ideal space if you are sensitive and easily triggered by loud noises, dust, or tight spaces.
Please note that this is a working industrial facility with potential hazards, and your safety is our top priority. Please wear closed-toe sturdy shoes, and we will provide safety vests, ear protection, and hard hats upon arrival. We ask for a minimum of 24 hours advance notice if you need to cancel your registration. For large groups (tour groups are a maximum of 12 people), please contact RSMWasteZero@Recology.com to book a private tour.
