Bulky Items

For large items that don’t fit or belong in your bins, like old furniture, appliances, or mattresses, schedule a curbside Bulky Item Pickup or use your Dump Coupons.

CURBSIDE

Residential
Residents may schedule one free curbside pickup each calendar year. If you exceed your number of free pickups, you may request additional collections for a fee.

Commercial
Commercial customers can schedule Bulky Item Pickup for a fee.

SPECIFICATIONS

ONE BIC is equal to:

  • Two cubic yards equal to 3ft (D) x 3ft (H) x 6ft (L)
  • = (12) 32-gallon bags
  • = (3) individual large items

*all individual items need to be within 3ft (D) x 3ft (H) x 6ft (L) and under 100 lbs so our drivers can lift them

*Each 32-gallon bag cannot be more than 60lbs


GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  •  All long items (wood, poles, pipes) must be bundled up to remain secure.
  •  Do NOT place hazardous waste in bags (e waste, paint, sharps) – this has potential to cause fires at our facility and hurt our workers
  •  When calling in to schedule your BIC, you must provide an itemized list of what you will be placing on the street by the curb.
  •  If you need to add or subtract items to your BIC, you must call back in.
  •  If we see more than what is on your itemized list we may:
  1. Not pick up your BIC
  2. Use an additional one of free BIC’s with your approval
  3. Charge you for an additional BIC if you have run out of free BIC’s with your approval

 


ACCEPTABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE BIC LIST

Acceptable Items
Appliances such as:

  •  Air Conditioner
  •  Refrigerator – doors MUST be removed
  •  Kitchen Stove
  •  Washer
  •  Dryer
  •  Freezer
  •  Water heater
  •  Dish Washer
  •  Trash Compactor
  • Car parts such as:
    •  Bumpers
    •  Fenders
    •  Radiator – must be drained
    •  Engine parts (Only if Metal)
    •  Camshaft
    •  Car Seats

Carpet:

  •  Must be bundled
  •  Under 6 ft. and 30 lbs. per bundle
  •  No nails or tacks
  •  No more than 10 bundles per pick-up
Furniture:

  • Bed frames
  •  Box Spring
  •  Chairs
  •  Couches (Must be under 6 ft.)
  •  Table
  •  Dresser
  •  Mattress
  •  Patio Furniture
  •  Bathtubs/Hot tub (Cut into under 6ft parts less than 100 each) Toilets
  • Basketball Hoops (Post must be cut in half)

Wood:

  •  Up to 10 bundles
  •  Under 30 lbs. per bundle, no longer than 6 ft.
  •  No painted or treated wood; stained wood is OK

Other:

  •  Door (Under 6 ft. in length or cut to this length)
  •  Drywall (Must be cut into 2’ x 4’ sections)
  •  Electronic waste (Must be placed separately or in open box, do NOT bag)
  •  Bikes
  • Insulation (Must be bagged)
  •  Pallet (Up to 6 whole pieces, take nails off)
  •  Pipes (Plastic and metal bundled)
  •  Tile (Up to 20 pieces)
  • Toys (Large toys that don’t fit in 32-gallon bags)

 

Unacceptable Items
Car parts such as:

  •  Motors
  •  Heads
  •  Transmissions

Other:

  •  Asphalt
  •  Bricks
  •  Cement bags
  •  Concrete
  •  Construction debris
  •  Demolition debris
  •  Dirt
  •  Gravel

Hazardous Waste such as:

  •  Chemicals
  •  Medicine
  •  Paint
  •  Sharps
Other:

  •  Hot Ashes
  •  Infectious waste
  •  Liquids
  •  Rocks
  •  Tires
  •  Treated Wood
  •  Any wood that has been pressure treated with a chemical preservative to protect the wood against attacks from insects, microorganisms, or fungi. It is typically used in outdoor applications such as fences, decks, stairways, etc.
  •  Yard waste – except for palm fronts and oleanders


DUMP COUPON

Recology American Canyon provides account holders with Dump Coupons that are distributed two (2) times per year in March and September. The coupon is valid for a single drop-off of up to 1,000 pounds of residential waste at the Devlin Road Transfer Station at no extra charge. Coupon is not valid on loads over 1,000 pounds. You must unload your own vehicle. No replacements for lost or damaged coupons. Photocopies will not be accepted. Present your coupon with a valid ID that matches your Recology account. Unacceptable items include: appliances, e-waste, hazardous waste, tires, and organics.
